Hundreds descended upon our Route 26 location last summer to join our celebration of Maine Open
Farms Day. 2011 was our first year to participate in the annual event sponsored by the Maine
Department of Agriculture. Farms all over the state open their doors each year on this day to show
visitors what life is like on the farm.
Peter and Kathie Bolduc (owners) were extremely pleased
with the beautiful day Mother Nature provided and with
the tremendous turnout of hundreds of visitors from all
over central and southern Maine and Canada.
One of the most popular spots on the farm was the petting
barn and barnyard. Here the visitors could pet the animals
and the kids were given helium filled Harvest Hill Farm
balloons.
While in the petting barn many of the moms, dads,
grams and gramps found the enlarged posters of
reprints of historic original pictures of the farm to be
very interesting and informative. Visitors were also treated
to horse drawn wagon rides provided by Luther Gray of the
Maine Draft Horse Club.
Another of the popular spots was the tasting tent.
Here visitors could purchase “Burgers for a Buck”.
While Peter worked the grill cooking their own
range fed beef burgers for only a dollar, his wife
Kathie and their four children were busy with the
complimentary tasting table offering their own baked
breads, cookies and most popular, their fresh baked
whoopee pies.
Many of the visitor’s expressed sincere thanks to
the Bolducs for all the work they have done to the
farm under their ownership. At a time when many
family farms have been sold to developers and
turned into house lots, the Bolducs vision is to
preserve the Farm’s heritage and offer four season
“agritainment” venues enabling families to come
and enjoy the farm.
Since taking over the property the Bolducs have opened Pumpkin Land, The Big Corn Maze
Adventure and The Gauntlet Haunted Night Ride as Fall venuesand Winter Wonderland for the
colder months. The Field of Dreams Family Fun Park, their newest agritainment venue, is slated to
open this August. The main farmhouse on Rte 26 has been completely renovated and now houses
both the Country Farm Market and Farm House Pizza.
