Harvest Hill Farms Proclaims “Andrew’s Week”
to Help Disabled Boy
MECHANIC FALLS, MAINE: Harvest Hill Farms has proclaimed the 2nd week
of October as Andrew’s Week to raise funds for Andrew Berry, the disabled
Saco boy whose pumpkin patch was destroyed by vandals.
Andrew’s father, Jason Berry, said the family had planned to sell the
pumpkins from their roadside patch to raise money for Andrew’s needs.
Andrew has cerebral palsy and epilepsy. However their hopes and plans
were dashed the night of Aug. 28 when vandals stole their biggest pumpkins
and destroyed the rest of the patch.
When Peter Bolduc, owner of Harvest Hill Farms and Pumpkin Land, heard
about Andrew’s misfortune, he contacted Andrew’s mom, Robin, and said he
would like to sponsor Andrew’s Week at Harvest Hill Farms and will kick off
the week in conjunction with the opening of the Field of Dreams.
The Field of Dreams is a scaled down version of Pumpkin Land that will be
open weekday afternoons Tuesday through Friday starting the 2nd week of
October in response to moms, dads and grandparents that would like to
bring their pre-school children to the farm during the week.
Bolduc is donating the proceeds from pumpkin sales during Andrew’s week
in Andrew’s name to the Morrison Developmental Center in Scarborough
and to the Epilepsy Foundation of Maine. Cerebral palsy affects Andrew's
muscle tone, movement and motor skills, and epilepsy cause recurring
seizures. Because of the disorders, Berry said, Andrew uses a wheelchair
and does not speak.
Andrew’s family was elated when Bolduc extended an invitation to the family
to visit Pumpkin on Saturday October 8th.. The official proclamation will be
made at approximately 2pm and the family will be asked up on stage to help
“kick off” Andrew’s Week at the Field of Dreams.
The Field of Dreams Weekday Fun Park has closed for the 2011 Season, see you in the Summer of 2012
